A Taste of Berkeley- Best of Food, Drink, Dessert

Since moving back home to the Bay Area after school in Los Angeles, I started to meet a lot of people at Cal Berkeley. Sooner than later, I got the total lay of the land...especially in the best of food, drinks, desserts. I'm huge on trying new places, and new foods. Berekely has a super good restaraunts of every genre food, consisting of a vast diversity perfect for the foodie culture in the bay area and emphasis on local businesses.

Ramen Shop - Ramen

Craving ramen? Plan your grumbling stomach accordingly for the expected wait list to get a table, (they don't take reservations) especially at their heightened popular hours. Upon entering after putting your name down, grab a drink at the bar and take a look at the menu! Their ramen menu changes occasionally, but always offers a vegetarian option. The broth is flavorful, delicious meat slices, such fresh texture to the ramen, and if you're brave the spicy oil really has a big kick to it. Overall, the ~$18 Ramen is totally worth it and if you get a table near the kitchen you can watch the cooks prepare the noodles from scratch!

Café M - Brunch Spot

I left it to our VP of Sales, Anna, to tell me about her first time experience at Café M with a couple of her friends. "It was bustling with people, there is great seating outside in the sun in addition to their large dining area on the inside as well. The egg omlette is best- definitely recommended, and the matcha green tea latte was an awesome pair! Stroll on over to 4th street afterwards for some shopping or just hanging out and people watching.

Taco Sinaloa - Mexican Food

Also popular from their Taco Truck in Oakland, Taco Sinaloa is a stop by and go Mexican restaurant selling great tasting tacos, burritos, quesadillas and more with a variety of meat options. Well priced, and fast service- minimal seating but worth it to get to-go and find a place on campus a couple of blocks north to sit and eat.

Cheeseboard - Unique Pizzas

This is a one of a kind pizza you can't get anywhere else. Cheeseboard is known for their Pizza of the Day- check out their calendar online to see which pizzas are on their menu each day of the month! They host both indoor/outdoor seating right in the middle of downtown Berkeley, as well as live music at night. This is a perfect spot for everyone: locals, tourists, and college students. There is a long line down the sidewalk, but it goes by really fast. You can order by the slice, half or full pizza. And don't forget to grab some of their special spicy sauce on the side by the music stage. Next door is a cheeseboard store full of a variety of cheeses and the infamous Phillz Coffee down the street.

Pasta Bene - Italian Food

This is a favorite of mine, I became a little addicted to their "Rustica Pasta" including pene pasta, pesto sauce, fennel sausage and artichoke hearts. Their staff is the sweetest bunch serving plenty of tables inside, and a few outside as well right on Telegraph Ave. They have a pretty big menu, so stop by and check it out, ask them what they're favorites are on the menu! Afterwards you can stroll up telegraph for a unique Berkeley shopping experience.

Jupiter - Beautiful Outdoor Seating

On a nice night in the East Bay, find your way to the outdoor patio to scope out an open table under their cute outdoor lights. Jupiter, best known for their wood-fired pizza and handcrafted beer. They also host live music on the outdoor patio up to six nights a week! Arrive a little earlier for dinner and you're sure to grab a table quickly. After dinner, stroll down a block or two to Landmark Shattuck Cinema for a movie and let your meal digest!

Brazil Café - Brazilian Food

Berkely cultured owner, three different locations... A casual outdoors location, Medium scale- back patio, benches, chill.  upper scale- white table cloth nicer end version. Only located in berkely, this special spot is a must go to. A customer favorite is the Tri-tip plate, along with their cheesy bread balls.

Chez Panisse - Fancy

Unique meals, terrific wines, and all selections are not only local but an international appeal as well. Eclectic is the best word to describe the menu. Fun environment for anyone, foodies will enjoy the food preparation. For a truely memorable evening, chez panisse can't be missed. Warm, rich feeling atmosphere- as though you are being transported back in time. skinny hallways, comfortable tables, almost home-like! There is a lower and higher level to the restaurant. It is sophisticated yet simple. Although it is on the pricier end, it is a great place for a special night of congratulations, job promotion, engagement or anniversary- splurge for the experience!

Little Gem - Dessert

Get ready to get addicted to these quick, yummy and warm desserts. Little Gem serves the best pressed Belgian waffles with both sweet and savory toppings. My favorite is the #1: including Nutella and sliced strawberries. Perfect for your late night cravings, they're open until 11pm and on Friday and Saturday until 12am! If you're totally craving ice cream, add it on top! Or just a block up on the corner is CREAM, another well known dessert spot for ice cream sandwhiches!

Tap Haus - Drinks

This German style beer hall, pool hall and restaurant is best known for their numerous pool tables-(now including an upstairs section!) beer in a boot, and a fun and lively crowd of both college students, locals and young working professionals. Hosting 21 beers on tap, Tap Haus is the spot to start your night or end your night with a local beer, a game of pool and conveniently located next to multiple other late night food spots and Karaoke to keep the night going.

Top Dog - Late Night Food

Convenient, tasty late night food open until 2am serving a variety of sausages and toppings- straight forward and totally hits the spot. It's a small place with no seating, but you'll scarf down your hotdog so fast you'll be back in line for another in no time. On the same street are more late night food spots defintley worth the visit, such as: Artichoke Pizza open until 3:30am!, La Burrita for mexican food, or La Seniore's pizza.
